Photo in focus #17

Happy December. (Somewhat obviously) new posts were absent from the site, due to a crowded schedule (travel, sports, etc.). I have snow in my area, so new photos will soon get added to the Winter Gallery. For my post this week, I decided to add 3 new photos to the site and feature those photos. Two of the photos are from the Winter Gallery, and one is from the Scotland Gallery. The two from the Winter Gallery are new photos taken specifically for the Gallery, and the photo from the Scotland Gallery is a photo I took over a year ago but just didn't upload it to the site.

The first photo I took on a walk on a cold December morning. New snow fell overnight and it looked beautiful. More snow fell the next night, but I wasn’t able to get a picture of it, unfortunately.

The stats for this photo will look the same as most of the other photos I take (I don’t change my camera settings much).

This next photo I took on the same day as the previous photo. I took it woods near my house.

Again, similar stats here.

This last photo was taken on the top of a mountain near Glencoe, Scotland. It looks similar to a few others in the Scotland Gallery, but I still think it stands out due to its particularly sharp, craggy mountains.

I apologize again for missing two posts in a row. I try and get them out on time, but Tiny Explorations, while a project important to me and one I enjoy spending time on, I still view it more as a hobby than a super serious, full time site. In short, it just doesn’t always get my full attention, hence minimal upgrades to the site in recent weeks. It is still a project I love to spend time on, and I have projects I am working on to publish to the site, so keep your eyes peeled :).

I’m always open to suggestions, comments, feedback, and criticism. Feel free to send any of these in an email to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or drop a comment below. Thanks for reading!

Photo in Focus #16

Happy Saturday. No big changes to the site; just some minor changes. As I do not have much time, I will keep the post shorter than usual. For my post, I picked a photo from the Winter Gallery

This photo, along with a few others in the Winter Gallery, were all taken on a walk I took near my house on a morning in December. It snowed a few inches overnight, and looked super pretty in the morning. I took a few pictures that morning and a few made it into the Winter Gallery.

Photo in Focus #15

Happy Saturday (or whenever you're reading).  New photos for the Winter Gallery and new winter Videos should be coming soon, as Winter is nearly here. The Scotland Gallery may receive a few new photos, but for the most part it is finished.

The photo this week got added specifically for this post. It's from the Fall Gallery, and was taken at a small lake near where I live. There are many small lakes like this where I live, and each one is different. They are cool to take a short walk too and usually I can get good photos there.

Hello! This week's post features one of my favorite photos. But before that, be sure to check out the new All Photos page. You can filter by tags and search. The search is not great, but I hope to improve it over time.

The photo from this week is from the Scotland Gallery. It shows a valley near Glencoe, Scotland. Glencoe is a small town in the Scottish highlands. Home to some beautiful yet rugged terrain, the area is a hotspot for adventures. This particular photo shows a valley near the 'three sisters'. These are three mountains that all look somewhat alike.

This was a photo by the side of the road, and that road can be seen in the far left of the image. I personally think the clouds blowing off the mountain look cool.

Photo in focus #13

Welcome back. Before we get into this weeks post, I'd like to share some updates about the site. First, the all photos gallery mentioned a few posts back is nearing completion and will hopefully be published soon. Second, the blog will likely get more frequent posts coming up soon. Lastly, the site will hopefully be getting interactive animations soon. These will likely be sprinkled throughout the site, with no exact timeline or completion state.

Getting into this weeks post, the photo I chose was a recent photo added to the Fall Gallery just a few days ago. The photo was taken on a hike I did. I thought the angle was cool and snapped a quick photo. Fortunately, it turned out pretty well.

Unfortunately this will be another double post. I did not have time to work on last week's post. This is a shorter post this week, So I will jump right in.

This is a photo of the recent northern lights. It is not the best photo of the northern lights, but I like it. I shot it on a GoPro, so the quality of the image isn't stellar, but I think it works fine.

Photo in Focus #11

Happy October! The Fall colors are starting to pop, and it is getting colder. I was able to find the problem mentioned last week; and was able to fix it. However, there are other areas where it is appearing, and I am working to fix those. The photo this week is  from the Fall Gallery. The trees are starting to look like this where I live, and I will hopefully be able to add more photos to the Fall Gallery Soon.

I took this photo on a crisp, Fall morning in October, which is one of my favorite times to be outside. There isn't much story behind this photo, I was just out on a walk and thought this would be a pretty photo. The colors are slightly less vibrant than in real life, so this photo doesn't quite do the trees justice.

I will be back next week, and I hope to have new photos to add to the Fall Gallery soon.

Photo in Focus #10

Happy Saturday! I have a comment on a bug in the site; on mobile, there is an issue with the dropdown. A popup saying 'open menu' is appearing. I am currently trying to resolve it. I apologize for the inconvenience and hope to get it fixed ASAP. Please share a comment if it pops up on your device, and what device you are using.

This photo is from my Summer Gallery, and shows the Tahquamenon Falls in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The falls are also known as the Root Beer Falls, due to their color. The color is caused by Tannins in the water, which turn the water brown.

There is a short, smooth trail to this point where the photo was taken, and if you ever visit, I highly recommend it. The views of the falls are amazing. This photo is a photo of the lower falls, which is much smaller than the nearby upper falls. Both are still impressive though, and well worth a trip.

That is about it for this week's post. Again, I apologize about the bug, and hope to get it fixed. If you encounter any other bugs, or have questions, comments, concerns, thoughts, or suggestions please let me know. You can drop a comment or send an email to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and I will try to respond to both. Thanks for reading, and I will have a new post next week.

Photo in Focus #9

Sorry  to my readers; I was off the grid last week and was unable to post. So I will be doing two photos this week. They will both be from the Summer Gallery, and one is one of my few indoor photos. They both have boring stories, but I like both photos.

One of my only indoor photos, this was snapped at my local bug zoo. Inside, there is a small greenhouse, and inside that greenhouse are hundreds of butterflies, coming in various sizes and colors.  This little guy landed on the wall, and I was able to snap this picture.

And now the second photo. This one got added to the site recently, and I snapped it on a hike I did recently. I was surprised it turned out as well  as it did.

I like how the clouds ended up reflecting on the lake, but am slightly unhappy with how dark the photo ended up being. (quick note: I don't do any editing on my photos beyond cropping them, so no photos are lightened/darkened, etc.)

I hoped you liked these photos, and am sorry for being unable to post last week; let me know if you would rather me post later in the week, or do two photos in the next post. I will be back next week with another photo. Thank you for reading!

Photo in Focus #8

I would like to start by apologizing for missing my post last week. I was n a place where I was unable to post anything to the site. I regret this and hope you understand.

The pace at which content and changes are added/made to the site will likely be slowed considerably soon. That said, it won't fully stop. New photos will continually get added.

My photo this week is one I had a lot of fun taking. It's actually a still photo saved from a video of some small, crashing waves. I like it because I think its kind go a playful photo, relatively speaking (in my opinion).

Photo in Focus #7

A few notes about the site: first, the photo in focus times will be changed to not have a specific posting time. The photo in focus will still be published on Saturday, just not at a set time. Second, the gallery mentioned in Photo in Focus #5 is taking longer than expected to make. I hope to have it done asap, but please be patient while I set it up.

This week's photo got pulled from the Fall Gallery (the smallest gallery currently. I hope to update it with more photos in the coming months). I picked it for no particular reason.  This photo showcases a hill in the middle of Fall. I think that even though the power line is kind of ugly, I think the surrounding tres contrast nicely with it. I'm always one that enjoys Fall leaves, and I personally like the blend of evergreens to the trees that are changing colors.

Photo in Focus #6

Hello, and welcome to photo in focus #6! With fall around the corner, you should be sure to soak up the last of summer  while you can. For the photo this week, I've picked a more unusual photo. It took a few tries to get it right, but I think it ended up being really cool. It's a really cool angle (I think), and overall, I think it looks pretty good.

Note; some details are missing or incomplete

That is it for this week. Apologies for the missing details. I truly wish I had them. I will post a new photo next week! Also note: the search feature mentioned last time may take time to finish. I hope to get it done soon.

Photo in Focus #5

Welcome to photo in focus #5! Before we get started, there are a few things I want to say about the site real quick! First up: a search/filtering section should be coming soon! It may be implemented differently than how you might think, but it should be out in the following weeks. Second, expect a new video in the next month. I should have a new one out by then. Lastly, there is a new gallery on the public end labeled 'grid pro sample'. If you are wandering, this is not mine. A close friend set it up for me to see how a certain part of the website was build, and it might stay up there for a while. Until then, enjoy the photos in it and be sure to check out the original website that hosts these photos. This week's photo is another from the Scotland Gallery.

This was at the end of a hike I did in the Scottish highlands, near Glencoe, Scotland. It was a hike that went straight up a mountain, and this was the view I got at the top! As if that wasn't worth it enough, I could also see Ben Nevis (picture will likely go up soon in the Scotland Gallery), the highest mountain in the Uk. You can see several smaller mountains and a lake in the background. This is one of my favorite photos I have ever taken, because of how much of the land this one photo captures.

Let me know your thoughts by sharing a comment below. Also, keep your eyes open for new photos/videos on the site!

Edit: The two menu items mentioned earlier have been removed from the menu. The search feature will be back up when completed.

Photo in Focus #4

Welcome back! I have a few updates on the site to share before this week’s photo. First: the site will be moving to a new url! It is

tiny-explorations.com

A temporary redirect will hopefully be set up. Second- I am still having issues with the subscribe function. This feature will remain in blog posts but will likely not work. I am working on resolving the issue, but until further notice, it will not be working. Lastly, the  website homepage has been completely redesigned. I will keep tweaking it as the site continues to expand. If you have ideas for how  to make either the galleries or homepage better, please drop a comment or an email; I would greatly appreciate it.

Without further holdup, I present this week’s photo:

One of the more recent uploads to the site, it’s certainly one of my favorites in the Scotland Gallery. This was on a boat trip out to this castle. There is not much story behind it.

Resolution: 4032 × 2268 (9mp)

ISO: 50

Date: Tuesday- September 5, 2023 at 9:52 AM

Camera: Apple iPhone 13

Lens: Wide (note: these lenses are according to manufacturer. Some lenses may be digital.)

I do not have much more to add. Please leave a comment with any thoughts on the photo. I will be back next Saturday with a new photo!

Edit: Apologies for the delay in posting; I hope to get the auto poster working soon!

Photo in Focus #2

Welcome back to this week's Photo in Focus!  This week's post will look similar to last week's post. Again, please email me/leave a comment with any ideas/suggestions for the site. I am always trying to make it better. Without further ado, here is the photo I have selected this week.

I got this photo in the middle of June, right when my Summer was kicking in. I decided to go to the beach, not knowing what I would end up doing. I ended up just sitting in/enjoying the sun, and  looking for rocks. I ended up getting bored, and starting to play around with different shots of the water and the lakebed. Hence; this week's photo. I picked this week's photo to show some of the things to look at/do in the middle of the summer heat!

On the details side; again, please let me know if I should add anything to this section; I don't have much here currently.

Resolution: 4032x2268 (9mp)

ISO: 50

Date: Monday- June 17, 2024 at 7:06 PM

Camera: Apple iPhone 13

Gallery: Summer

Lens: Wide (note: these lenses are according to manufacturer. Some lenses may be digital.)

I got this photo after a few tries. You can see roughly where my head was when I was taking the shot. It is not my best shot, but I like how it shows some of the natural beauty of the lake.

Be sure to drop a comment and share your thoughts.

Photo in Focus #3

Welcome back! July is nearing its end, and Fall is around the corner for me. I've been soaking up summer while I can, but I'm looking forwards to Winter, as somewhat evident by the picture I've selected this week. Let me know thoughts about which season you think is the best to be outside during. For me, it's hard to beat ski season. However, Summer is so short for me it is hard to beat while it's here.

I mentioned Winter, and this week's photo was pulled from the Winter Gallery. I selected it because I have been missing the snow and chilly weather. Here it is.

While there isn't much of a story here, this photo was captured on a cold Winter morning after a few fresh inches of snow. Often, in the Winter, I go out and wander around the woods near my house. I got this photo doing just that.

Resolution: 4032 × 2268 (9mp)

ISO: 50

Date: Monday- December 4, 2023 at 9:08AM

Camera: Apple iPhone 13

Lens: Wide (note: these lenses are according to manufacturer. Some lenses may be digital.)

This is one of my favorite photos; I like seeing the branches with snow on them. This was a lovely morning to be out, and I am looking forwards to this Winter.

Be sure to share your thoughts!

Note: I am currently having issues with the subscribe feature. I hope to get this issue resolved soon.

Photo in Focus

Hey there, and welcome to Photo in Focus! Each week, I will pick a photo, and do some background on it, including where the shot was, and some of the more nerdy stuff like the resolution. The new Photo in Focus will come out every week on Saturday at 8:00 am. Be sure to check them out! This week's photo is....

One of my favorites, this photo showcases some of the rugged, natural beauty of Glencoe, Scotland.  Shot from the side of the road at a roadside stop, this photo is one of my favorites. Here are the details*:

Resolution: 4032x2268 (9 mp)

ISO: 50

Date: Wednesday- September 6, 2023 at 8:26 am

Camera: iPhone 13

Lens: Wide (note: these lenses are according to manufacturer. Some lenses may be digital.)

*if there are anymore details you think I should add, drop a comment!

I didn't have any particular ideas for composition in mind when I took this photo, I just wanted to get a nice photo that people would be able to enjoy later on.

If there are any details in particular that stand out to you, please let me know! Some of my favorites are the clumps of trees around the creek flowing down the mountain to the right of the main mountain.

That is about all for my first photo of the week. If you have any ideas, shoot me an email or drop a comment. I'm always trying to improve my site! Thanks for reading, and have fun out there.
